Significance
Ganesh Chaturthi celebrates the birth of Lord Ganesha and falls on the fourth day (Chaturthi) of the bright half (Shukla paksha) of Bhadrapada. Clay idols of Ganesha are installed in homes and public pandals and worshipped for anywhere from one and a half to eleven days before immersion (visarjan). As the remover of obstacles and lord of new beginnings, Ganesha is invoked first in almost every Hindu ritual -- this festival is his own dedicated day.
Muhurat & Timing
Ganesha's installation (pratishtha) and puja are done during the Madhyahna (midday) period, since classical tradition holds Ganesha was born around noon. For 2026 in New Delhi, that auspicious window falls between 11:02 AM and 1:31 PM on September 14.
